October 1, 1912 was a historical day for the Edmonton Police Service. On that day Miss Annie Jackson became our first female police officer. She carried a badge and operated with full police powers. Since that day, the EPS has sworn in approximately 450 women, 350 of which are currently active.

These numbers clearly show that women are playing an increasingly important role in today’s police service. This is a fact worth celebrating. To that end, a committee has been struck to plan a gala evening this coming October. All current and retired female members will be invited to purchase tickets.

The committee hopes to secure a top-notch guest speaker, as well as provide commemorative souvenirs and attendee packages. As this special event celebrates a pivotal moment in EPS history, I invite you to consider helping us to achieve our goals by either contributing to our funding, or making a donation-in-kind. Any left-over funds will be donated to the Beverley MacLean Legacy Fund.

The City of Edmonton has the authority under the Tax Act to issue the receipts as a municipality.  Following our Gala Event on October 20 we will be hosting an Appreciation evening in which all Sponsors will be recognized for their contributions. We also are showing support for our Sponsors by recognizing them publically within the Edmonton Police Service and the community.
